Activities for Special Needs Families is a group for anyone that has a disability or has a family member with special needs that meets in Madison, NC. Teresa Julian is the adoptive mother of seven special needs children. Three of them are now adults and three of them are teens. She wanted to provide them a safe place where they could go to have fun and make friends with others!
Teresa has worked with the special needs population for over 15 years and has also run a co-ed special needs Boy Scouts troop.
We provide a safe environment with activities, games, music, parties, movies and more. We learn about life skills, holidays, and the community. We meet bi-monthly on Saturdays at First Baptist Church, 110 Franklin Street in Madison. This group is for any child or adult with disabilities. We do everything at such a level that all can participate and feel good about themselves!
We also offer Kids Church for special needs on Sundays. We do crafts, learn about the Bible, watch videos, and have lots of fun while doing it!
Some past activities include a retro game day, a pinewood derby (that included sanding and painting the cars), and an Easter party. Upcoming activities include a circus-themed talent show, a carnival, and a Halloween costume party! All events include lots of food, fun games, and crafts. This group also focuses on education: learning about holidays, practicing kitchen safety while baking, and honoring community helpers in Madison and the Triad. There are currently about 24 individuals in the group of all ages and abilities. Teresa currently uses her Facebook group to connect group members and disseminate information about their upcoming meetings.
